Anime filler FAQ
Definitions, source notes, and practical answers for using AnimeExplore.
The short version
What the labels mean
What is anime filler?
Anime filler is material that does not adapt the source manga story. It can be skipped when you want a shorter route, although some viewers enjoy the extra stories.
What is canon?
Canon is material treated as part of the core story for the guide. AnimeExplore labels episodes using cached source flags and curated corrections.
What is manga canon?
Manga canon adapts the source manga while sometimes adding anime-original scenes. It remains part of the core viewing route.
What is anime canon?
Anime canon describes story material created for the anime that the guide treats as part of that anime continuity. It is kept distinct from filler where the data supports that distinction.
What is a mixed episode?
A mixed episode contains both core-story material and anime-original material. AnimeExplore labels it Mixed rather than inventing a timestamp for the part that could be skipped.
What is a recap episode?
A recap episode mainly summarizes earlier episodes. It can be useful after a break, but is usually optional when you remember the story.
Using the site
Sources, progress, and corrections
How are classifications sourced?
The site uses cached catalogue data through a public API as a base and applies curated corrections stored in the repository. Curated data wins when sources conflict. See How it works for the methodology.
Why can guides differ between websites?
Websites can use different source snapshots, definitions, episode scopes, and editorial decisions. AnimeExplore shows its labels and update information so the route is easier to evaluate.
How often is AnimeExplore updated?
Cached source snapshots are refreshed by the project workflow when the upstream source is available. Curated corrections are applied through the site data workflow. No refresh schedule is guaranteed for every individual guide.
How do ongoing series work?
Ongoing series can show the episodes classified so far and are not described as complete when the final episode count is not known. New snapshots can add episodes later.
Can progress be saved without an account?
Yes. Episode progress is stored in your browser using localStorage. Signing in is optional and adds private cross-device list sync. Share Progress can also create a URL containing watched episode numbers.
How can I submit corrections?
Use the Submit a correction page to report a wrong flag, missing show, or source issue. Include the show, episode number, and supporting evidence when possible.
Does AnimeExplore stream anime?
No. AnimeExplore provides guides, classifications, watch orders, progress tools, and related information. It does not stream anime.
